One of the Cygwin's author, had mentioned an alternative called UWIN, stated that "Its single biggest advantage over Cygwin32 is probably its more complete support for the UNIX security model." in section "9. Proprietary Alternatives" (

http://static.usenix.org/publications/library/proceedings/ana97/full_papers/korn/korn.txtUWIN is currently open-sourced and licensed under EPL-1.0, which is incompatible with the GPL but with some exception (
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLIncompatibleLibs).

However, at the first time of download, an authentication box would appear, then the "Cancel" botton pressed, the username and the password are at the end of the license page.
