Hiawatha version: hiawatha 8.5 self compiled Operating System: Linux 3.2.0-32-virtual #51-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 26 22:16:32 UTC 2012
Hello,
I didnt find a solution for that problem. When I try to start hiawatha with /etc/init.d/hiawatha start this error message: Starting webserver: Can't read file hiawatha.conf. error!
The same error message with service hiawatha start, /usr/sbin/hiawatha and /usr/sbin/hiawatha -c /etc/hiawatha/.
The config has the default name hiawatha.conf and is located at /etc/hiawatha.

Are you using selinux or apparmor? What do you see when executing the following command?
strings /usr/sbin/hiawatha | grep etc

I have now made a configuration check.
$ /etc/init.d/hiawatha check
Configuration check via Wigwam... Using /etc/hiawatha Reading hiawatha.conf Reading /etc/hiawatha/enable-sites//***********.com No non-fatal errors found in the Hiawatha configuration.

I don't think this is a Hiawatha issue. You have something on your system that is block access to hiawatha.conf for the Hiawatha binary. I have no idea what that is.
