periodically "high server load" (0.8 - 1.5). How can I find out what it depends?

You can check the Hiawatha logfiles for high amounts of requests. If there is nothing to be found in the logfiles, it must have been another service. Check their logfiles for info. Otherwise, see if the high loads are at the same time everytime it occurs. In that case, log in at that time and see what goes wrong.
