Hello Hugo,
What about "pagespeed", do you think this can be implemented into Hiawatha?
Pages do load faster with it and number of requests goes down quite significantly.

If you mean Google's PageSpeed, the answer is definitely 'no'. That kind of stuff doesn't belong in a webserver.

In my experience, mod-pagespeed only importance for 'resize' (optimize) images size in pages.
Go to http://gtmetrix.com and compare forum.mratwork.com (my forum) with www.hiawatha-webserver.org.
Disable mod-pagespeed only decrease 2 point for my forum.
Optimize for my forum (hiawatha-proxy via Kloxo-MR 7.0.0):
1. Enable gzip for hiawatha
2. Enable microcache for hiawatha (10 secs; in website's index.php)
3. Enable apc cache in php
4. Enable cache in website (using SMF)
5. Enable mod-pagespeed in apache
